De’Aaron Fox kicked off his San Antonio Spurs career in impressive fashion after being traded from the Sacramento Kings. The star guard made his debut on Wednesday night, playing eight minutes in the first quarter.
In a post-game interview with ESPN, Fox shared his thoughts on the young core of the Spurs, which includes rising star Victor Wembanyama. While wiping off sweat, Fox joked that playing alongside such young talent made him feel much older, despite being just 27 years old.
“Playing with all these young guys makes me feel old,” Fox said. “But then they’re all dunking, and I feel young again. I think we had a great first quarter, it’s going well.”
Fox had a standout debut, scoring 24 points, recording 13 assists, grabbing five rebounds, and adding three steals. He became the first player in franchise history to achieve a 20-point, 10-assist performance in his first game with the Spurs. Wembanyama also contributed 24 points and 12 rebounds, including a crucial game-winning free throw with three seconds remaining. He intentionally missed the second free throw to disrupt the Atlanta Hawks, who had no timeouts left. The Spurs secured a 126–125 victory, marking a memorable debut for Fox with his new team.
