Meghan Markle Made a Surprising Suits Joke with Invictus Games Athletes

Meghan Markle, known for playing Rachel Zane on Suits, made a light-hearted reference to her iconic role during a visit to Team U.S.A. at the 2025 Invictus Games. While in Canada for the event, Meghan and Prince Harry attended a team breakfast on February 8, where they met with athletes and interacted warmly with the group. Meghan even shared photos from the gathering on her newly launched Instagram, marking her first-ever Instagram Story post.

Leandra Moehring, one of the athletes who met the couple, recalled the moment the group mentioned Suits. “We told her we saw her on the show,” Moehring said, “and she joked, ‘I’m sorry I’m not wearing a pencil skirt,’ referring to the signature outfit of her character.”

Moehring, who will compete in multiple events including skiing, rowing, and swimming, praised the couple for their generosity with their time. “Despite the schedule they were on, they took the time to connect with everyone,” she shared. “They didn’t mind taking pictures at all. It was really special.”

Another athlete, Ewing, who will compete in snowboarding, swimming, and seated volleyball, shared her experience of meeting Meghan. “When Meghan looks at you, she really looks at you, and you feel it,” she said. “She’s caring, intuitive, and down-to-earth. She truly looks like she cares.” Ewing added that Meghan and Harry tried to engage with everyone, even noticing small details, like a photo of an athlete’s parents on their phone case. “They noticed everything, and they were so happy to be there,” she said.

Christopher Bryde, an athlete competing in the biathlon, wheelchair rugby, swimming, and rowing, had a special connection with Prince Harry, having both served in Afghanistan in 2008. “We hugged and took a cheeky selfie. It felt like meeting a friend at the pub,” Bryde said.

Michael Murphy, who met Prince Harry at the 2022 Invictus Games in The Hague, also shared his appreciation for the couple’s down-to-earth nature. “They spent time with everyone, taking selfies, asking about our stories. It gives you a whole new perspective on royalty and Hollywood,” Murphy said. Murphy, who will compete in snowboarding, skeleton, indoor rowing, and swimming, added that the Invictus Games are about more than competition. “It’s about family, camaraderie, and inspiration. The stories you hear here are life-changing,” he said.

The Invictus Games, which run from February 8 to 16 in Vancouver and Whistler, bring together wounded, injured, and sick service members from around the world. The event fosters resilience and camaraderie through sports. This year marks the first time the Invictus Games have returned to a previous host country, following events in London (2014), Orlando (2016), Toronto (2017), Sydney (2018), The Hague (2022), and Düsseldorf (2023).

Dominic Reid, the outgoing CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, recently praised Prince Harry’s commitment to the event. “He has created extraordinary opportunities for veterans and service members, making them feel seen, heard, and cared for,” Reid said.
