The latest episode of Come Dine With Me began on a shaky note when one diner struggled with a mushroom starter, likening it to “putting a dead slug in my mouth.”
Set in Plymouth, this week’s edition of the Channel 4 show features five new contestants competing in dinner parties. Each guest cooks a meal and then scores their peers’ efforts. Performing arts teacher Nina opened the competition with a menu inspired by old Hollywood glamour.
However, things went awry when one of the guests, Lea, expressed her dislike for the mushroom starter. “It’s like putting a dead slug in my mouth!” she remarked. Despite her distaste, she attempted the dish, with Nina offering support and understanding.
Lea, not a fan of mushrooms, had hoped to try Nina’s garlic mushroom tart. She struggled with the bite but stayed composed. “I didn’t choke, I didn’t gag, I wasn’t sick, so I suppose that’s great!” she said after swallowing. Nina appreciated her effort and praised Lea for giving the dish a chance. “Thank you ever so much,” she responded, as Lea seemed to push through the discomfort.
In addition to the food hiccups, Nina encountered another issue with guest Katie, but this time it was about the tableware. Katie, though complimentary about the meal, had some criticism. “I had never had moussaka before, I wasn’t sure what to expect — it was delicious,” she said. “But my only downside — and I’m going to sound like a snob — was the plastic plates.” Despite this, she enjoyed the meal, sampling the cheesecake even though she described her body as “a temple.”
When it came time to score Nina’s dinner, Katie gave it an eight out of ten. “Really good fun, great hosting. The starter was fantastic, the main course almost perfect, but the dessert was lacking a bit. The plastic plates let it down just a little bit, so I’m giving it an eight,” Katie explained.
