Alec Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, didn’t have high expectations when they began filming their TLC docuseries, The Baldwins.
Looking back, Hilaria, 41, admitted, “I think we didn’t think it through very much, which I look back now and I’m thinking, ‘What were we thinking?’ But at the same time, I’m so glad that we didn’t because it is so raw and it is so true. It was a very vulnerable time.” She added, “It’s interesting to look back, and even though it wasn’t that long ago, it really was a diary of how we were coping and moving forward.”
She expressed gratitude for the experience, saying, “I’m very grateful that we did it, and we were so lucky with the people we did it with. I don’t say that lightly.”
The couple, along with their seven young children, starred in the series, which aired on TLC. Alec, 66, also shares an older daughter, Ireland, with ex-wife Kim Basinger. The show highlighted the Baldwin family’s dynamics, especially following Alec’s involvement in the 2021 Rust shooting incident, where he accidentally discharged a prop gun, resulting in the death of the film’s director of photography. Alec was later charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the case was dismissed during trial.
Hilaria credited the production team for helping tell their story. “We’re so lucky because Sarah Reddy helped tell our story,” she said. “Howard Lee really, really believed in us and saw this. Just to be heard and seen and speak is such a special thing.”
Alec joked about his role in the series, saying, “I didn’t make any decisions. I didn’t have any input at all. My wife and Sarah just shoved me around all day long for months.”
When asked if the reality show impacted their marriage, Alec explained, “You’re always going to get a response when doing reality TV, among other things. I hosted game shows and did Match Game for a while to raise money for our foundation, to give to charity. You’re always looking for ways to do that. People will say, ‘Oh, this is another silly thing you’re doing,’ but I really don’t care. We had fun.”
Hilaria shared her own positive experience with the production. “We had so much fun, and the kids had fun. It was such a good experience.”
As The Baldwins continues airing on TLC, Hilaria hinted that there might be more episodes. “We’ll see,” she said, with Alec adding, “She’ll be back.”
The couple recently took a break from filming and parenting to attend the grand opening of Planet Hollywood in Times Square. Alec recalled attending the opening of the original Planet Hollywood years ago, saying, “This was the beginning of that kind of movie star, celebrity-centered club restaurant.” He added that while these types of establishments eventually faded, he thought the reopening was a great idea.
Hilaria, who was only six years old when the original Planet Hollywood launched, was excited about the new venue. “But look at this! This is such an iconic place. It really is, and we’re in the heart of New York, so it’s such a fun thing to be part of,” she said.
