WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Harvard University, threatening to strip the school of its federal funding and tax-exempt status. His remarks come after the university refused to comply with the Trump administration’s push for increased government oversight.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called Harvard “a joke” and claimed it “teaches hate and stupidity.” He added that the university should no longer be considered among the world’s top institutions and demanded that it lose federal funding.
The U.S. government announced on Tuesday that it would freeze more than $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard. This decision follows the university’s refusal to meet the administration’s demands to revise its admissions, hiring, and disciplinary processes, which were framed as efforts to combat antisemitism.
