Fox News host Greg Gutfeld made a controversial remark on Friday night about singer Katy Perry after her spaceflight aboard Blue Origin.
In a segment on Gutfeld!, Gutfeld mocked Perry’s preparation for the trip, saying, “To prepare for her trip on the Blue Origin rocket, Katy Perry said, quote, she read a book on string theory – we’re told she thought it was about the effects of zero gravity on tampons.” His comments followed Perry’s participation in a spaceflight launched by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space exploration company, where she was one of six women on board.
The crew, which also included Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, TV host Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn, flew to the edge of space on Monday. The flight lasted about 11 minutes. After returning to Earth, Perry described the experience as “super connected to life” and “so connected to love.” Her words quickly became a subject of online memes and were mocked by others, including Wendy’s and conservative commentator Ben Shapiro.
Gutfeld’s comments didn’t stop there. He also made crude jokes about Sanchez and King, with the audience responding with laughter. During the segment, Gutfeld joked about a conspiracy theory claiming the Blue Origin flight was fake. As he displayed a photo of Sanchez, he quipped, “Come on, what’s fake about this astronaut?”
Further mocking the women, Gutfeld mentioned that the Kardashian family had gifted Sanchez a $3,000 purse after her flight. He continued by saying, “Not to be outdone, Oprah had in turn gifted King a replica of the rocket they had traveled in,” followed by an image of a vibrator, to which Gutfeld remarked, “Yeah, don’t fall on one of those. That was a night I won’t forget.”
