Comedian Nikki Glaser, known for her blunt humor, recently shared that she once removed a joke from a Comedy Central roast after Caitlyn Jenner threatened to back out of the event. Glaser revealed this during an appearance at the Time100 Summit in New York.
The incident occurred when Glaser was rehearsing her material for what was likely the roast of Alec Baldwin. Jenner had heard about a joke Glaser had written involving her involvement in a fatal car accident. Although Glaser didn’t repeat the joke at the summit, she previously discussed it on The Howard Stern Show in 2019. The joke was a sharp remark about Jenner: “Caitlyn Jenner, what a beautiful woman… you killed with your car four years ago. [You are] one woman who can’t menstruate but still manages to have blood on her hands.”
Glaser admitted that she was “nervous” about performing the joke and considered giving Jenner a heads-up. However, Comedy Central advised against it, fearing Jenner might withdraw from the roast. Despite this, Jenner heard about the joke beforehand and made her feelings clear. “Jenner said if there’s a joke like that, I don’t want to be a part of it,” Glaser recalled. “As soon as I heard that, I go, ‘OK, I’ll take it out.’ I just needed to hear it from her.”
Glaser explained that she is always willing to remove jokes that may make people uncomfortable, a practice she learned from comedian Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel once gave her advice, saying, “If you’re worried about a joke and how it’s going to go over, just ask them.”
Glaser applied this approach again when preparing her Golden Globes monologue in January. She texted music producer Benny Blanco to ask if it was okay to joke about his attendance at the event. The joke went: “Selena Gomez is here for ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Only Murders,’ and she’s here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.”
“I got his number and was like, ‘Hey, you don’t know me, but I’m hosting this thing and I hear you’re going to be there. Can I say that you’re there because a genie granted you a wish?’” Glaser explained. Blanco responded enthusiastically, saying, “That’s hilarious! Let me run it by Selena.” Later, he confirmed: “Selena thinks it’s great.”
Glaser is set to return as host for the Golden Globes on January 11, 2026.
