During a recent interview with Turkish influencers, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) joked that Bitcoin might have been created by an artificial intelligence (AI) from the future.
“It might be software coming back through time… It’s hard to imagine now, but it could be possible,” CZ said. He described the idea as one of the “stranger” theories about Bitcoin’s origins.
Despite the playful comment, CZ made it clear that he does not know who created Bitcoin. “I do not know who he is. I’ve never interacted with them. I know people who did in the early days… but I don’t know who he is,” he explained.
CZ also noted that if a group had created Bitcoin, staying anonymous would have been much harder. He suggested that it would be easier for a single person to hide their identity.
The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, remains one of the biggest mysteries in the cryptocurrency world. Over the years, several individuals have been suggested, including cypherpunk Hal Finney, computer scientist Nick Szabo, privacy advocate Len Sassaman, and Blockstream CEO Adam Back.
Last year, an HBO documentary controversially claimed that Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd was Satoshi. However, most of the cryptocurrency community dismissed the claim.
Speculation around Bitcoin’s creator continues to fuel debate. As CZ hinted, the real answer might be even stranger than anyone expects.
