In 2025, the MCU will close one chapter and begin a new one with the launch of Phase 6. The first major film of this phase is Avengers: Doomsday, set to release next year. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts serves as the final movie in Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga. Some of the stars from Thunderbolts are already confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday, which will culminate with Secret Wars in 2027. However, fans shouldn’t expect any spoilers from the cast, as Marvel Studios’ secrecy measures are reportedly very strict.
Wyatt Russell, who first appeared as John Walker/U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and will reprise his role in Thunderbolts, spoke about the intense training Marvel imposes to keep spoilers under wraps. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Russell joked about the studio’s extreme methods for preventing leaks. He said, “Media training for Doomsday is they just hold a knife to your neck and say, ‘You say anything, and it’s over.’”
David Harbour, Russell’s co-star in Thunderbolts and known for his role as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, also shared his experience. Harbour agreed that Marvel’s approach to keeping Avengers: Doomsday secrets is intense. He described the challenge of avoiding questions about the film during interviews, saying, “It’s the most terrifying stunt imaginable, doing a bunch of interviews where they go, ‘So we hear you’re in Doomsday?’ and you’re just like harnessed up.”
Director Jack Schreier, who worked with several cast members from Avengers: Doomsday on Thunderbolts, has not been directly involved in the two-part Avengers epic. As a result, he seemed to have avoided the intense secrecy training. He humorously noted, “I never got taken into the back room and really given the talking to,” and added, “Maybe they know it’s out in the world now, and you just learn not to reveal anything.”
Marvel Studios has faced numerous leaks and spoilers in the past, and to prevent this from happening again, they are taking extra precautions. This includes keeping the Avengers: Doomsday cast in the dark about crucial details. Florence Pugh and David Harbour, who are part of Thunderbolts, admitted that they hadn’t read the script for Doomsday yet, despite production starting in March. Pugh stated, “I haven’t read a script, so I can’t leak anything,” and Harbour added, “I’m in the same boat.”
Avengers: Doomsday has already become one of the most anticipated films in Phase 6 of the MCU, which is set to conclude the Multiverse Saga. The lineup for this phase includes The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025, followed by Doomsday on May 1, 2026, an untitled Spider-Man sequel on July 24, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to be lengthy, with runtimes similar to Infinity War and Endgame. As their releases approach, there will undoubtedly be much speculation and excitement surrounding these blockbuster films.
