In a long-standing “Saturday Night Live” tradition, Colin Jost found himself the subject of jokes about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, during the show’s final “Weekend Update” segment of the year.
Jost, who co-hosts the segment with Michael Che, typically ends the year by trading jokes with Che. This year, the segment took a humorous turn when Che included Johansson in a few of the jokes, leading to Jost struggling to get through them.
The bit started with Jost jokingly explaining that he would need to “read all the jokes in ‘Black voice’ so I don’t get in trouble,” a line clearly designed by Che to add a comedic twist. The first joke, which poked fun at Vice President Kamala Harris’ stance on slavery reparations, had Jost reading aloud, “Well, damn girl, me too. Because white people deserve our money back for all those slaves that ran away.”
After bursting into laughter, Jost was presented with a photo of Johansson on his screen, followed by a message that read, “I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson.”
The camera then cut to Johansson backstage, where she watched nervously but laughed along, unsure of what Jost would say next.
Jost continued with a joke about Johansson turning 40. “Y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up out of there,” he quipped, laughing.
The comedian also joked about their son, Cosmo, born in 2021. “We just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t see no pictures of him yet, because he’s Black as hell,” he said, adding to the playful atmosphere.
The humor didn’t stop there. Jost went on to read an even wilder joke about Costco beef.
Despite taking the brunt of the jokes, Jost made sure to return the favor to Che, who also had to read a series of jokes involving Moana, Jeffrey Epstein, Jay-Z, and Diddy.
