Aaron Rodgers is keeping an open mind as he reflects on his future, including his potential role with the New York Jets for next season. The 41-year-old quarterback, whose team is currently 4-11, is considering several possible outcomes for his career.
“I think there’s a world where they just say, ‘Hey, thank you, we’re going in another direction’ on January 6th,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, December 23. “That’s a possibility. I also think there’s a chance we wait and see who the new staff is.”
The Jets’ season has been marked by disappointment, including the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. In a recent The Athletic article, sources within the organization suggested that Jets owner Woody Johnson’s teenage sons, Brick and Jack, sometimes influence team decisions.
Rodgers responded to this report with a humorous remark. “Being released would be a first; being released by a teenager, that would also be a first,” he quipped. “So, hey, I’m open to everything and I find the comedy in all of it. If that happens, hey, it’s a great story.”
The following day, on Tuesday, December 24, Rodgers was less forthcoming when asked if he thought Jets owner Woody Johnson would bring him back for the final year of his contract. “You should ask Woody,” Rodgers responded briefly.
Rodgers, however, seemed more at ease discussing other parts of his life. During the McAfee interview, he shared details about his personal life, including his new relationship with a woman named Brittani.
When talking about his Christmas shopping, Rodgers mentioned he was anxiously awaiting a late-arriving gift for Brittani. “There was one package left for my girlfriend Brittani that hadn’t showed up yet,” he said. “I was waiting on this to show up, and it showed up today.”
After some teasing from McAfee and co-host A.J. Hawk, Rodgers opened up about his feelings for Brittani. “It’s a good feeling, boys. It is,” he said, confirming he’s in love.
