Actor John Stamos’ wife, Caitlin McHugh, playfully joked that he “went through everyone else” before settling down with her at age 54.
McHugh made the remark during an interview with Fox News, where the couple reflected on their six years of marriage. She explained, “We spend a lot of time together. There’s a lot of good communication and stuff.” She added with a laugh, “But really, I wonder if it’s just that he went through everyone else already. I was the last one.”
The couple, who got engaged in 2017 after dating for less than two years, tied the knot in February 2018. Their son, Billy, was born just two months later.
McHugh, 38, noted that while six years of marriage might seem like a long time for some celebrity couples, it’s not as long as it might appear in “real life.” Stamos, now 61, and McHugh have built a strong relationship over the years.
Before marrying McHugh, Stamos had a history of high-profile relationships. He was previously married to actress Rebecca Romijn from 1998 to 2005. He also had notable relationships with Paula Abdul, Teri Copley, and Denise Richards. Additionally, Stamos nearly dated his Full House co-star Lori Loughlin before choosing Romijn.
In a 2015 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Stamos fondly recalled his relationship with Abdul, saying, “We had a great relationship. We are still good friends. She’s cute, isn’t she?” However, he did not speak as positively about his marriage to Romijn.
In promoting his 2023 memoir, Stamos admitted to People that he “hated” Romijn during their divorce and even described her as “the devil.” On The Howard Stern Show, he revealed that he felt “emasculated” by her success during their marriage.
