CHICAGO (TNND) — Comedian Kathy Griffin made a provocative comment during an appearance on WGN Radio 720 on Tuesday, suggesting that fans should attend her comedy shows before she is sent to “one of those internment camps” under a second Trump presidency.
The remark came as Griffin was promoting her new comedy show, My Life On the PTSD List. She explained that her comedy prioritizes humor without offending groups like the LGBT community.
Griffin, however, acknowledged the backlash she received in 2017 after posing with a bloodied mask of then-President-elect Donald Trump. The controversial photo sparked widespread condemnation, including from CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, who had previously co-hosted the network’s New Year’s Eve special with her.
“I go back and forth about some things because it’s been a few years since the Trump decapitation photo scandal,” Griffin said. “I was on the no-fly list, on Interpol’s list, and now he’s going to be president again. So, come see me before I end up in one of those internment camps.”
Griffin expanded on her reference to the “enemies list,” explaining that she has had a long history with Trump, dating back over 30 years. “Most of us thought he was just a harmless buffoon, but when he says he’s going to build camps for his enemies, he might not be joking,” she remarked.
The comedian also discussed her performances for U.S. service members stationed in the Middle East, which she said proved her patriotism. “Don’t tell me I’m not a patriot, darn it,” Griffin said. “I’m honored to be back on stage, especially at The Chicago Theatre.”
In a 2023 episode of The View, Griffin shared details about her “Twitter war” with Elon Musk, claiming that she used her late mother’s Twitter account to troll Musk after he banned her. “I kept tweeting as her account saying, ‘#BidenHarris, #VoteBlueNoMatterWho,’” she explained. “He took my account, so I started trolling him from my dead mother’s account.”
Griffin’s comments come as Trump has made headlines for acknowledging his political enemies in a Truth Social post, which featured a photo of him with First Lady Jill Biden and a caption reading, “A fragrance your enemies can’t resist!”
Meanwhile, the incoming Trump administration has been offered over 1,400 acres of land in Texas, which critics say could be used as mass deportation facilities, drawing comparisons to World War II-era internment camps for Japanese Americans.
