Adam Devine is gearing up for a potential superhero role!

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 41-year-old actor and comedian shared that his recent weight loss was motivated by the idea that he could one day be cast in a superhero film.

“I feel like I’m in a good rhythm with this, and I just want to keep it going,” Devine said about his weight loss journey. “I like where I am right now.”

He went on to explain that his goal isn’t to get extremely lean. “I just want to be in shape so if Marvel calls, I’m ready.”

Devine also joked about the possibility of joining the DC universe. “If James Gunn calls and says, ‘Hey, we’re ready to bring you into the DC universe,’ I can say, ‘Give me a couple of months, and I’ll be there,'” he added.

The actor, who has teamed up with MyFitnessPal, an all-in-one food tracker and health app, said that he gained “sympathy weight” when his wife, Chloe Bridges, was pregnant with their son Beau, born in February 2024.

“It was real for me,” Devine explained, referring to Couvade syndrome, where partners gain weight in sympathy with the pregnant person. “I just ballooned up, and I didn’t look like myself. When I looked in the mirror, it was like I was a cartoon version of myself.”

Devine revealed that he gained more weight than Chloe during her pregnancy. “I gained 28 pounds, and she gained about 26 pounds,” he said.

The Pitch Perfect star added that seeing his weight gain made him want to return to his previous self. “I just wanted to feel like me again,” he said.

Although he’s always eaten well and exercised, Devine admitted that he wasn’t aware certain foods were negatively affecting him.
