YouTube Removes Ranveer Allahbadia’s Video for ‘Obscene Jokes’

Ranveer Allahbadia, who was named ‘Disruptor of the Year’ by Prime Minister Modi in 2024, has become the focus of a major controversy. His comments on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent sparked outrage across social media, with strong criticism from the public and political figures, including Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

In response to the growing controversy, YouTube took down the controversial video after receiving a notice from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The platform removed the content for violating its community guidelines on offensive material. This decision followed increasing public complaints about Allahbadia’s alleged promotion of obscenity.

The NHRC intervened on Monday, urging YouTube to act quickly by removing the episode. NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo sent a letter to YouTube’s head of public policy, claiming the show promoted negative themes, religious intolerance, and inappropriate content. Kanoongo argued that the video violated multiple laws, including the BNS, POCSO Act, and IT Act.

YouTube, known for its strict policies against explicit and harmful content, complied by removing the video. A statement from the platform emphasized that it does not tolerate content that promotes obscenity, harassment, or inappropriate discussions.

Allahbadia later apologized for his remarks on social media. “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry,” the 31-year-old YouTuber and podcaster said.

The controversy began when Allahbadia, a judge on the show alongside host Samay Raina and influencers Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, asked a highly inappropriate question to a contestant. The comment, which shocked both the audience and the participants, was widely condemned.

In the now-deleted video, Allahbadia asked, “Would you rather watch your parents have *** every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The crude nature of the question led to outrage on social media, with many labeling it vulgar and unacceptable for an entertainment platform.

The fallout from the incident expanded beyond social media. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that an FIR had been filed against Allahbadia for promoting obscenity. Several police complaints were also registered, demanding strict action against the influencer.
