Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy have become so close that they jokingly refer to themselves as a “quadruple” with their spouses, Keleigh Sperry and Malcolm McRae. In an interview with PEOPLE about their upcoming film The Gorge, the two actors shared details about their tight-knit friendship.
Teller, 37, and Taylor-Joy, 28, explained that their bond began through a shared agent, though Taylor-Joy had admired Teller long before they worked together on the Apple Original Films thriller. “I had heard of Miles for a long time, and his performance in Whiplash really captivated me,” she said. “I always hoped he was doing well.” Their first meeting was also the night she met Sperry, 32, who has since become one of her best friends.
Teller humorously remarked that since his wife and Taylor-Joy became close, he often feels like he’s “just hanging in the background” whenever they are around. “I love you, bud,” he said affectionately.
Teller also praised Taylor-Joy, describing her as a “fascinating person to watch.” “I was very curious about what Anya was like. She’s a little badass, very cool, and highly intelligent. I love spending time with her,” he said.
The two actors now spend a lot of time together off-set, often with their spouses. When asked to describe their close-knit group, Teller joked, “A throuple is three people… what’s four?” Taylor-Joy quickly responded, “A quadruple,” and Teller agreed, adding, “Yeah, we do a lot of activities together.”
Teller then acknowledged how the term might sound and laughed, saying, “That might come out wrong in text.” Taylor-Joy agreed, saying, “Probably. I don’t think that was the right move.”
Despite the jokes, both actors emphasized that they truly enjoy spending time with their partners and that their friendship made working on The Gorge much easier.
The film, which premieres on Valentine’s Day, follows two operatives—Teller and Taylor-Joy—who are stationed in guard towers on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge. When a threat emerges, they must protect the world and themselves.
Teller and Sperry, a model and actress, met at a Grammys afterparty in 2013, and after a safari proposal in 2017, they married in Maui in 2019. Taylor-Joy and McRae, a musician and actor, met in 2021 at the premiere of The Queen’s Gambit and secretly married in 2022, tying the knot again in Italy in 2023.
