Ryan Reynolds Jokes About ‘It Ends With Us’ Lawsuit on ‘SNL50’

by Diana Ward

On February 16, during the “SNL50” celebration, Ryan Reynolds humorously addressed the ongoing legal drama surrounding his wife, Blake Lively, and actor-director Justin Baldoni over their film It Ends With Us.

The moment unfolded during an interactive Q&A segment hosted by SNL veterans Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Reynolds, sitting in the audience, stood up to ask a question. Poehler greeted him, saying, “Ryan Reynolds, how’s it going?”

“Great,” Reynolds responded before playfully asking, “Why, what have you heard?” This reference to the legal conflict over It Ends With Us sparked laughter from the crowd, though Lively, sitting beside him, looked at him with a concerned expression.

Fey and Poehler acted as if they had no knowledge of any recent headlines involving Reynolds or Lively, raising their hands in mock ignorance.

Reynolds then lightened the mood by inquiring about the safety of eating the material used for the Conehead props, famously worn by SNL stars like Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin.

Fey jokingly responded, “Edible? No, and based on them being made in 1975, I’d assume they’re highly toxic.”

Reynolds, continuing with the humor, asked, “So, if somebody, hypothetically, took a couple of nibbles backstage and, you know, got excited, should they go to the hospital?”

The skit, lasting about eight minutes, featured other stars such as Quinta Brunson, Jon Hamm, Nate Bargatze, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Keith Richards, Bad Bunny, Ray Romano, Jason Momoa, and Peyton Manning, all asking the SNL duo questions.

Reynolds and Lively’s appearance comes amid a very public and contentious legal battle between Lively and Baldoni, set to go to trial on March 9, 2026. Lively, who starred in It Ends With Us alongside Baldoni, has filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual harassment during the movie’s production and subsequently orchestrating a smear campaign against her. This lawsuit follows a formal sexual harassment complaint Lively filed with the California Civil Rights Department in December 2024, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.

In response, Baldoni has filed a defamation lawsuit for $400 million against Lively, Reynolds, Leslie Sloane, Sloane’s PR firm, and also sued The New York Times for libel after it published an article in December 2024 discussing Lively’s allegations.
