Actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay is eager for the release of his upcoming Netflix series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. Known for his diverse roles in both Bengali and Hindi cinema, Parambrata humorously reflected on his recurring portrayals of police officers ahead of the series’ launch.
During the trailer release event, Parambrata, who has frequently played a cop in films, joked that he was considering changing his name to “Iftikhar.” This was a playful reference to veteran actor Iftekhar, who became famous for his iconic roles as a police officer in the 1960s. “Before Khakee came my way, I decided that if I played a cop again, I’d have to change my name to Iftikhar,” Parambrata said. “I’ve portrayed a police officer countless times in both Bengali and Hindi films, and I thought it was time for a change.”
Despite his initial thoughts, the actor was quick to explain why he agreed to take part in Khakee. “When Khakee came from Neeraj sir, I couldn’t say no, even if it meant renaming myself! Another major factor was Netflix. I’ve had the opportunity to work with them recently, and I’m glad I did. I had a great time during the short but fulfilling time I spent filming the series,” he shared.
Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is set in the early 2000s and follows IPS officer Arjun Maitra as he battles against corruption in a system where gangsters and politicians once operated with impunity. Arjun is determined to restore justice in a world marked by shifting power dynamics.
The series boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Jeet Madnani, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Ritwik Bhowmik, Aadil Zafar Khan, Chitrangada Singh, Pooja Chopra, Aakanksha Singh, Mimoh Chakraborty, and Shraddha Das.
