Ben Affleck joked that his 13-year-old son, Samuel, didn’t want to do chores to afford a pair of $6,000 Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers.
During an interview at SXSW on Saturday, the “Gone Girl” star explained that Samuel had shown interest in the expensive shoes but quickly changed his mind when he was told he’d have to work for them.
Affleck said, “That’s what happens when you tell a kid they have to mow a lawn. All of a sudden, they don’t want those shoes.” He added, “I’m like, ‘Man, you don’t need $1,000 shoes.’” Affleck then jokingly told Samuel, “We have the money. You’re broke.”
Last week, Affleck, who is worth $150 million, was seen at the Got Sole sneaker convention with Samuel. There, the father-son duo checked out the limited-edition Air Jordans, which were originally priced at $2,000 in 2020 before becoming a collector’s item.
Affleck, laughing at the price, said to Samuel, “You like those because they’re expensive.” Samuel defended his choice, replying, “No, they’re tough! I’ve always said they look good!”
Affleck then commented, “That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow there” after seeing the hefty price tag.
