Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe has secured a deal with Netflix months after facing criticism for making racist jokes at a rally for President Donald Trump in October at Madison Square Garden.
Netflix announced on Monday that Hinchcliffe’s podcast, Kill Tony, will be turned into three exclusive comedy specials. The first special will premiere on April 7.
At the Trump rally, Hinchcliffe made several controversial jokes targeting various groups, including Latinos, Puerto Ricans, Black people, Haitian people, and Jewish people. In one instance, he asked the crowd, “Where are my proud Latinos at tonight?” before adding, “You guys see what I mean? [The border’s] wide open. There’s so many of them.” He also made crude remarks about Latinos, saying they love making babies and don’t “pull out.”
Hinchcliffe also made offensive comments about Puerto Rico, calling it a “floating island of garbage,” and mocked Halloween traditions, saying Black people carve watermelons instead of pumpkins. He further insulted Jewish people by claiming they are obsessed with money, and he repeated a false statement by Trump about Haitian immigrants “eating the pets” in Springfield, Ohio.
These comments sparked widespread backlash from several public figures, including Puerto Rican music artists Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny, actress Aubrey Plaza, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and former Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz.
Despite the criticism, Hinchcliffe did not apologize for his remarks. Instead, in a November episode of his podcast, he declared, “I apologize to absolutely nobody.” He added, “Perhaps that venue at that time wasn’t the best fucking place to do this set at, but in any matter, to the mainstream media and to anybody trying to slander me online: That’s what I do, and that’s never going to change.”
