Ben Affleck recently joked about his son Samuel wanting a pair of $6,000 Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers. The actor shared the story during an interview with Access Hollywood at the SXSW festival in Texas, where he is promoting his new film, The Accountant 2.
Affleck explained that Samuel, his 13-year-old son, was keen on the expensive sneakers, but Affleck had a practical solution: Samuel would need to mow the lawn to earn them. When Samuel realized what was required to get the shoes, he quickly lost interest, Affleck said with a laugh.
Samuel is one of three children Affleck shares with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. Affleck joked about the situation, saying, “That’s what happens when you tell a mother (expletive) they have to mow a lawn. All of a sudden, they don’t want those shoes.”
The actor also recalled how he put his son in check when Samuel pushed back about the price of the shoes. Affleck said, “I’m like, ‘Man, you do not need $1,000 shoes.’” When Samuel argued, “We have the money,” Affleck responded, “I have the money, you’re broke.”
According to Page Six, the price of the sneakers increased as they became a sought-after collector’s item. In a video posted by Got Sole on Instagram, Affleck stood by while Samuel eyed the pricey sneakers.
Affleck commented, “You like those because they’re expensive,” to which Samuel replied, “No, they’re tough! I’ve always said they look good!” Affleck humorously responded, “That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow there.”
In the video, the salesman discussed the shoes with Samuel, asking about his size while Affleck followed behind. The clip was captioned, “Ben Affleck might have to buy his son Dior 1’s.” Samuel, excited about the sneakers, revealed that the Dior Air Jordans were one of his two favorite pairs.
