Colleen Hoover, the author of It Ends With Us, responded to her viral Instagram video from March 18, which sparked concern among some fans. On Wednesday, March 19, Hoover shared a photo of a Diet Pepsi bottle on her Instagram Story, captioning it, “Such disturbing content.”
In her original video, Hoover, 45, humorously discussed her unusual Diet Pepsi ritual. “This may be either a new rock bottom for me or the best thing that’s ever come out of my brain,” she said. “Look at this, I poured Diet Pepsi into my ice cubes, so I will have the best Diet Pepsi I’ve ever had in my life.”
The video continued with Hoover filling a bottle with Diet Pepsi and ice cubes, before asking her followers, “Do you think other people do this? We put water in our water. Do y’all put wine in your wine?” She joked, “I’ll do anything not to drink coffee.” Hoover then noted the drink tasted “just like every other Diet Pepsi I’ve ever had” and declared, “It’s gonna be a great day.”
However, Hoover soon backtracked. “Remember, like, five minutes ago when I ended the last video with, ‘It’s gonna be a great day?’” she said, explaining that all of her merchandise had been drastically discounted to $10 per item on her website. Hoover claimed her “boss” made the decision to lower the prices, which left her facing potential financial losses.
“That’s, like, five times cheaper than what I paid for each item, which means by the end of the day today I’m going to be broke as s—,” Hoover said, warning her “boss” to be cautious. She also referenced rumors from Instagram gossip account DeuxMoi, which suggested Hoover had let go of her employees and retired from writing.
“Well, I can’t retire now because now I’m gonna be in the hole by 5 p.m.,” Hoover added. “Even if you hate me, you should go buy a piece because it’s a very, kind of, bad thing. Anyway, at least I have my Diet Pepsi. It’s still gonna be a great day because you guys get almost free merch, congrats.”
This video follows Hoover’s return to Instagram after a brief hiatus in January. She had deactivated her account amid legal troubles related to the film adaptation of It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Hoover deleted references to the film and its stars when she returned to social media.
In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment on the film’s set. Baldoni has denied the allegations and filed two lawsuits of his own. Hoover initially supported Lively but has since remained silent about the ongoing legal issues.
