Kat Dennings, who starred alongside Jennifer Coolidge on 2 Broke Girls, is eager to catch up with her busy former co-star, who is currently enjoying a major career resurgence.
In an interview with PEOPLE before the season 1 finale of ABC’s Shifting Gears on March 19, Dennings shared her pride for Coolidge’s success, particularly following her Emmy-winning performances on The White Lotus seasons 1 and 2. However, Dennings, 38, admitted it’s been difficult to reconnect with Coolidge, 63, due to her packed schedule.
“I’ve tried to get in touch with her, but I think she’s too busy to talk to me right now,” Dennings joked.
She added, “I’m just kidding. I’ve reached out to tell her how amazing she is, but I didn’t ask any questions, so maybe that’s why she didn’t answer.”
Despite not being able to catch up recently, Dennings is thrilled for Coolidge’s success. “She’s an iconic person and actress,” she said. “I’m so excited for her renaissance. She really deserves it.”
Dennings and Coolidge starred together on the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls from 2011 to 2017. Coolidge played Sophie, the upstairs neighbor to Dennings’ character Max and Caroline (Beth Behrs). Since then, Coolidge’s career has soared, earning two Emmys for The White Lotus and landing numerous commercial roles. She has also starred in films like Shotgun Wedding, Riff Raff, and will appear in the upcoming A Minecraft Movie.
Seann William Scott, who stars with Dennings in Shifting Gears, also praised Coolidge. Scott, 48, worked with Coolidge on the American Pie franchise and described her as a “legend.”
“I haven’t spoken to her in a long time, just because that’s how it is in our business,” Scott told PEOPLE. “But I agree, she deserves to be in everything and to be crushing things.”
All episodes of Shifting Gears season 1 are now streaming on Hulu, and all six seasons of 2 Broke Girls are available for free on The Roku Channel.
