Viral ‘Evil’ Death Joke About Dennis Sparks Rodman’s Response

by Diana Ward

Dennis Rodman has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent months, but that changed dramatically on Tuesday after a controversial joke about him went viral. The joke, which many fans are calling in poor taste, suggested that the five-time NBA champion had passed away.

The hoax began circulating on social media just after April Fool’s Day, a day known for pranks and jokes. One particular post on Instagram claimed that Rodman had died in a tragic “autoerotic asphyxiation accident” at his apartment. The post included a message that read, “Rest easy Dennis, heaven has another angel now!”

As the fake story spread across social media, fans were quick to criticize it. Many expressed their outrage, with some even suggesting that death hoaxes should be treated as crimes. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “The Dennis Rodman death hoax was evil. I wish death hoaxes could be marked as crimes.” Others also voiced their disapproval, pointing out that death is never an appropriate topic for a joke, even on April Fool’s Day.

One user added, “Dennis Rodman being dead isn’t a good April Fools’ joke. That’s outta line. Keep it cordial and practical. I’m all for lighthearted jokes, but we never joked about deaths on April Fool’s, and we never will.”

In response to the uproar, Rodman took to Instagram later on Tuesday. He posted a selfie with the caption: “Yesss Sirr Alive and Well. What’s up?” confirming that he was indeed alive and well.
