Actress Gabourey Sidibe is keeping it real when it comes to parenting, even when it comes to planning her twins’ first birthday party.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sidibe, who is married to Brandon Frankel, shared that they won’t be throwing an elaborate celebration for their soon-to-be 1-year-old twins, Cooper and Maya. The reason? The babies won’t remember it.
“The babies are not going to remember,” Sidibe explained, dismissing any ideas of big decorations or rented party spaces. She humorously added that Cooper and Maya will get a birthday party “when they can spell ‘birthday.’”
While some parents might feel the pressure to throw an extravagant first birthday bash, Sidibe and Frankel are considering a simpler celebration. Instead of a traditional party, the couple is thinking about taking the twins to an aquarium.
“The fun things about babies is that they’ve seen very little, they know nothing, they are not traveled at all,” Sidibe said. “So they’re going to be really, really impressed by an octopus.”
Sidibe and Frankel welcomed their twins in April 2024 but didn’t announce the news until June of that year. The couple first went public with their relationship in May 2019 when they shared a selfie on Instagram, just two months after meeting on the dating app Raya.
