Joseph Quinn, Cosmo Jarvis, and Kit Connor are sharing insights into their new movie Warfare, which is based on writer-director Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences as a former Navy SEAL during the Iraq War. The film also features the talents of co-writer and co-director Alex Garland.
In an interview with Extra’s Adam Weissler, the actors discussed both the movie and the highly anticipated casting news for Avengers: Doomsday.
Joseph Quinn, who plays Johnny Storm (Human Torch) in Fantastic Four, confirmed his role in Avengers: Doomsday and teased, “I think we’re going to go tighter with the suit this time,” adding, “We’re going to really see how far we can go with that.”
Meanwhile, Cosmo Jarvis, who is also in Shōgun, could not reveal much about the upcoming season. He only mentioned, “I know that they’re working on it. They’re working very hard.”
However, Jarvis shared more about Warfare, describing the contribution of Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland to the project. “Ray brought authenticity, grounded in the real experiences of these men, while Alex approached it with a strict artistic focus,” he said. “He was deeply committed to ensuring it was truthful, which from an artistic perspective, is amazing.”
Kit Connor spoke about the strong bond formed among the cast during filming. Joseph recalled the intense three-week boot camp they underwent. “There was almost an expectation for us to live in each other’s space,” Connor explained. “We had to act as a team. If it had been a different group, it might have been harder, but because of the amazing group of people we had, it became one of the best parts of the job.”
Joseph Quinn described the boot camp as a “luxury,” recalling, “We learned a lot in that time. We used it to rehearse the material, do weapons training, and practice maneuvers so we’d look like SEALs on the first day of shooting.” He added, “Psychologically, it was vital to create a culture of care within the combat training.”
Quinn further reflected on the experience, saying, “It’s complex work, but with all the friends I made, you never felt alone. We all left the film as great friends, which is rare in this business. It’s not often you make so many friends on one project.”
