Aimee Lou Wood, known for her role in The White Lotus, addressed a recent parody of her on Saturday Night Live (SNL) that left her feeling hurt. While the actress understands that satire is part of the comedy show’s nature, she didn’t hold back in calling the sketch “mean.”
The parody, which aired during the SNL segment “The White POTUS,” is a political satire of the popular HBO show The White Lotus. It features various political figures, including Jon Hamm portraying Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is shown dating a character based on Wood.
In the sketch, Sarah Sherman, a member of the SNL cast, wears exaggerated fake teeth—a reference to Wood’s own prominent teeth, something the actress has publicly discussed being tired of hearing about. The sketch includes a joke about fluoride when Hamm’s Kennedy character says he wants it removed from drinking water, another nod to Wood’s appearance.
Though the audience laughed at the joke, Wood didn’t find it funny. She took to social media, labeling the parody as “mean and unfunny.” She admitted to feeling “righteous” about her reaction but noted that she might delete the post later.
Wood compared the experience to her time working with HBO on The White Lotus. She explained that while HBO executives initially hesitated to cast her, they eventually agreed due to the show’s creator, Mike White. She emphasized that, despite some misunderstandings about her insecurities, no one at HBO ever made negative comments about her appearance.
Later, Wood shared that SNL had privately apologized via Instagram, but she did not disclose whether she accepted the apology. As of now, Saturday Night Live has not issued a public apology.
Interestingly, Walton Goggins, who stars alongside Wood in The White Lotus, seemed to find the parody hilarious, commenting “Hahahahahhahaha Amazzzingggg” on Instagram.
While Wood seems ready to move past the incident, it’s unlikely she’ll be appearing on Studio 8H anytime soon. We reached out to Saturday Night Live for a comment but have yet to receive a response.
