Seth Rogen made a joke about former President Donald Trump during the 2025 Breakthrough Prize ceremony, but the remark was removed from the event’s live stream.
Rogen, who stars in Apple TV+’s The Studio, presented the Special Breakthrough Prize in Physics alongside actor Edward Norton. During his presentation, Rogen took aim at tech industry leaders who supported Trump’s reelection campaign.
His comment drew attention from those in attendance. One source told Deadline that many in the room speculated whether the jabs would be removed from the broadcast, which was delayed by a week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogen said, “It’s amazing that others in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy with $320 million and RFK Jr., very fast.”
Rogen has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration and its policies. In a recent interview with Esquire, he shared his thoughts on Trump’s victory in the 2016 election. “I try not to get too dark about it and think we’re on the brink of societal collapse,” he said. “Since the Civil War, America has always been a very divided country in many ways.”
He added, “People get tired of seeing ‘hippies’ on their lawns, doing acid, and they want things cleaned up. Then they get tired of seeing ‘dorks’ trying to fix everything and swing back in the other direction. It has real consequences for many lives, but I try to hold on to hope that things will keep moving forward, even if the progress is uneven.”
