Paige Bueckers may be Dallas’ next big sports star, with the city buzzing about her arrival after she was selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. Her presence at the Dallas Wings’ press conference on Wednesday proved just how much the media is already embracing her.
When a reporter jokingly asked how it felt to be “the hottest thing in Dallas right now,” Bueckers quickly responded with a self-deprecating remark that had the room laughing. “I would say the weather is probably hotter than me,” she said. “Different than Connecticut and Minnesota.” The lighthearted comment showcased both her humility and great sense of humor, traits that suggest the Wings have secured a true star.
Although Bueckers is preparing to start her WNBA career in Dallas, she hasn’t forgotten her roots. The city of Hopkins, Minnesota, where she grew up, will soon rename itself “Paige Bueckers, Minn.” in honor of her debut with the Wings. The change will be official on May 16.
As Bueckers prepares for her first game, she’s ready to put into action everything she’s learned from her time at UConn under Coach Geno Auriemma—humor and all.
