Shedeur Sanders might not have found an NFL team if it weren’t for President Donald Trump’s fiery comments about the NFL draft, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. On Monday, Leavitt joked that “the facts speak for themselves.”
After the first day of the NFL Draft, Trump expressed anger that no team had selected Sanders, the former Colorado quarterback. He called it “STUPID” to pass on Sanders, praising the quarterback’s Hall of Fame father for raising him well.
When asked if Trump’s comments on Truth Social had anything to do with Sanders being picked by the Cleveland Browns at No. 144 overall more than a day later, Leavitt smiled and said, “The President put out a statement, and a few rounds later he was drafted. I think the facts speak for themselves.”
While Leavitt’s comment was made lightheartedly, there might be some truth to the idea that Trump’s influence played a role. Sanders was not selected until Day 3 of the draft.
As for Sanders, he’s excited to be in the NFL, even if that means moving to Cleveland.
