A joke about Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel earnings made its way onto Saturday Night Live during the December 14 episode. The joke, made by cast member Andrew Dismukes, highlighted Johansson’s role as the primary breadwinner in her marriage to SNL co-anchor Colin Jost.
Dismukes, 29, appeared during the “Weekend Update” segment dressed as a “bald man.” He humorously commented on a recent U.K. court ruling aimed at protecting men who struggle with hair loss. While wiping his bald head with a towel, Dismukes quipped, “You think this is funny, Colin? I got to carry around a little shame in case my head gets wet.”
He added, “My hairless little hands on some of your wife’s Marvel money!” This comment made light of Johansson’s substantial earnings from her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jost, 42, quickly interrupted Dismukes to cut the segment short, laughing at the joke.
Jost and Johansson, who married in 2020, met while working together on Saturday Night Live. Johansson, best known for portraying Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel films, shares a son, Cosmo, with Jost.
In a June 2023 interview with CBS Mornings, Johansson shared insight into their relationship. “We laugh a lot and communicate with one another,” she said. “I’m married to a writer, he’s a comedy writer. He can get very in his head sometimes, he’s introverted, and I’m extroverted. The key for us is always checking in.”
Johansson is no stranger to SNL jokes about her life. She has spoken about how her marriage to Jost often becomes material for the show. “I rarely watch [SNL] without a sense of … not overwhelming panic, just like a slight underwhelming panic because I feel like at any moment something’s going to fall apart,” Johansson said in July 2021 on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “But that’s the excitement of SNL.”
In addition to Dismukes’ recent jab about Johansson’s Marvel earnings, she has been the subject of jokes in previous Weekend Update segments. Jost’s co-host, Michael Che, often includes her in their annual holiday joke swap during the Christmas episodes.
Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
