Tom Daley, the retired British Olympic diver, says his youngest son has clearly inherited his athletic energy.
Daley, 30, who shares two children with his husband, Dustin Lance Black, joked that his 20-month-old son, Phoenix Rose, is “like, feral.” At the Out100 Celebration in Los Angeles on December 11, Daley explained, “He is like a climber, runner, jumper. Anything he can do to hurt himself, he will try and do.”
In contrast, Daley’s 6-year-old son, Robert “Robbie” Ray, has a slower pace. Daley described Robbie as more creative, enjoying activities like building with Legos and taking his time with projects.
“Whereas Phoenix is all about the adrenaline,” Daley said. “Robbie is more on the creative side, doing things slowly.”
This year has been a special one for Daley, who was honored at the 2024 Out100 event. He also won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics over the summer. Reflecting on the year, Daley said, “It was really nice to be able to do that and also to be part of this.”
Now retired from diving, Daley said his top priority is spending more time with his children. “My number one priority is my kids, and making sure that I get to spend as much time with them as possible,” he said.
As the holiday season approaches, Daley looks forward to celebrating with Phoenix, Robbie, and other family members in Los Angeles. “We always make Christmas cookies in the build-up to Christmas,” he shared. “In the last couple of years, we’ve started going to a drag brunch on Christmas Eve before our family arrives. There are lots of traditions. I love the holiday season.”
